Reflectious

ok, been seeing this a lot lately and just need to say:

reflections on words with descenders just don't work. You'll either have the letter or word hovering a mile away from the ground plane or you just kind of pretend that letter doesn't count. reflections create the illusion of depth by introducing a surface plane. when that illusion is broken, it gets confusing. that's it. sorry.

Gerber Rigler Logo

I recently completed a logo (and 1 page site) for award-winning filmmakers and all-around good guys Brian Gerber and Thomas Rigler, who have collectively formed Gerber Rigler; a consulting firm specializing in entertainment-based services.

I had fun with the logo. I started with the similiarities of their last names: two syllables, shared a "g & e," both had 2 "r"s and 1 descender. I then aligned the names in different ways to really emphasize the similarities.

Once the 2 "g" s were aligned, the rest fell into place. I wanted the speech bubbles to seem like they were interacting, or bouncing an idea off of each other. As for the color, I liked the idea of green over blue - a plant sprouting from water, an idea growing. I experimented with having complimentary colors for the obvious implied meaning, but overall felt the visual impact of the green/blue far outweighed a metaphor that would be lost on most.
